Fotenix’s new scouting trolley brings multispectral crop imaging directly into the glasshouse, giving growers a consistent, plant-level view of crop health without fixed infrastructure.

The yield gap in protected growing is often measured in tonnes, but in practice, it is shaped by quality and timing. As glasshouse systems become more controlled and data-rich, earlier visibility and better monitoring are changing how much of that gap can realistically be reduced.

Issues often begin quietly, and by the time they’re visible to manual scouts, the crop has already adjusted growth, lost uniformity, or drifted away from forecast. That delay — the period where stress is present but not yet visible — is the visibility gap. And it can be costly.

For controlled systems, balancing production and energy use is a challenge. Fotenix was one of several tech partners that participated in the UK Agri-Tech Centres ACDC project, helping to develop a responsive, scalable indoor farming system.  

Slugs are sneaky and increasingly difficult to control… Fotenix is partnering with UK Agri-tech and BOFIN’s Slug Sleuths to help stop them in their slimy tracks.

As GrowUp Farms scaled production to meet a boom in demand for sustainably grown lettuce, manual quality control became impractical. By deploying Fotenix, it achieved traceability of every leaf, halved manual inspection time, and improved labour efficiency by x5.

When maintaining visibility over the glasshouse at its breeding site became too labour-intensive, grower Angus Soft Fruit turned to Fotenix to help automate the process, improving labour efficiency by 400%.
